Dr. Keisuke Fujii (Associate Professor, Graduate School of Informatics, Nagoya University)

He received his Ph.D. (Human and Environmental Studies) from the Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies, Kyoto University, in 2014. He then served as a JSPS Research Fellow (PD) at Nagoya University, a researcher at the RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project, and an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Informatics, Nagoya University, before assuming his current position in 2021. His research focuses on the integration of machine learning with behavioral science and sports science.

■ Abstract
In recent years, advances in automated sports data measurement technologies based on computer vision, together with the machine learning methods built upon them, have raised expectations for quantitative understanding of play and for decision-support applications. At the same time, unresolved challenges remain at every stage — measurement, recognition, classification, prediction, evaluation, and recommendation — arising from data-rights constraints associated with data acquisition, the difficulty of measurement, the complexity of collective behavior, and the context-dependence of judgment.

This talk focuses mainly on goal-based team sports and introduces automated data acquisition using computer vision, play evaluation based on counterfactual prediction using machine learning, and evaluation and action recommendations for entire games and all players using reinforcement learning. Finally, the talk will introduce efforts to make these technologies widely accessible — including the release of various datasets, the open-source analysis platform OpenSTARLab, and competitions that have been held — and will discuss future prospects.
